SABC News reports that police in Mpumalanga arrested more than 20 suspected illegal miners in different areas of the province this weekend.
Fifteen of the zama-zamas were allegedly found in possession of explosives in Barberton. Eight of the suspects were arrested in the Pilgrim’s Rest area. Mpumalanga police spokesperson Mpho Nonyane-Mpe said the suspects were facing charges that included the contravention of the Immigration Act and illegal mining. They are expected to appear in different courts on Monday.
