SABC News reports that the youth of Thabazimbi in Limpopo have welcomed the opening of a Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) college in their area.
Before its construction they travelled to other provinces to enrol in institutions of higher learning and some had to travel more than 100km to the mining town of Rustenburg. The Minister of Higher Education and Training, Blade Nzimande, officially opened the college and said that the mining industry played a pivotal role in this initiative. He indicated: “We do have partnership with some of the mining companies that are operating in this vicinity. Some of them, in fact, have helped us greatly in terms of getting some of the initial programs off the ground. Indeed, partnership with industry is very crucial if our TVET Colleges are to be a success, and also train students in such a way that they can either get jobs or start their own activities."
