News24Wire reports that Transnet Limited's largest division, Transnet Freight Rail (TFR), has launched an investigation into the death of an employee who fell to his death while on duty on a bridge in Mpumalanga.
The deceased, whose name has not yet been released, died at the Matsulu Rail Bridge near Mbombela on Tuesday morning. He was carrying out repair work on the rail track at Matsulu Rail Bridge, Kaapmuiden and slipped and fell from the bridge into the river. He died on the scene. Inspectors from the Department of Labour have visited the scene and the company has also launched a line investigation, which will be followed by a board of enquiry. A spokesperson said that it seemed unsafe procedures were to blame for the employee's death.
