ANA reports that the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) on Tuesday claimed that its members at Sibanye Gold’s Kroondal platinum mine had been suspended.
This was following a wildcat strike that began on Friday last week over provision of company transport. Sibanye obtained a Labour Court order to stop the strike and it was called off on Monday. But, in a statement on Tuesday, Amcu insisted that its strike was legal. The union indicated that it would be going back to the Labour Court on 26 August 2016 to resolve the matter and would be meeting with mine management on Thursday to continue discussing its “pressing issues”.
