cwu thumb medium90 95BDLive reports that the Communication Workers Union (CWU) on Thursday demanded that the governing ANC shake-up the board of Telkom and remove CEO Sipho Maseko by the end of the April, or face rolling mass action.

The CWU marched on the party’s Luthuli House headquarters to deliver a memorandum of demands that included an end to outsourcing at fully and partially state-owned entities, and that all departments extensively use SA Post Office (Sapo) services.  The union wants an end to all job cuts at Telkom and board changes by the end of the month, saying previous assurances by ANC leaders and government ministers had been unmet, and the union’s concerns often received "no response".  Only some 150 members marched through central Johannesburg, with their main grievances being the state of Telkom and Sapo, but more broadly centred on a string of job losses at state-owned enterprises.  Explaining the rather small number of marchers, CWU general secretary Aubrey Tshabalala said this was due to the march "not being a strike", and that it was mostly shop-stewards who had attended.
