Gold One dismisses 1,035 ‘illegal’ strikers at Modder East

Gold One has fired more than half its employees at the Modder East mine for taking part in illegal strike action last week. The company said in a statement the work stoppage by members of the Professional Transport Allied Workers’ Union (Ptawu) was unprotected as it breached a 2010 three-year wage accord. The union is not recognized by the company.
