In documents prepared for Cosatu’s central executive committee, it is argued that other provinces must contribute towards Gauteng e-tolling because the province pays more than its “fair share” to the economy and “four times more than it receives from the national treasury”. It is said that good infrastructure would benefit the entire county and not just Gauteng road users. The federation is opposed to the government’s approach, confirmed by deputy vice president Motlanthe this week, of “users pay”.
