With the fourth round of municipal wage talks underway, the SA Local Government Association (Salga) has accused the two municipal unions of pushing for a strike. While employers have accepted a mediator’s proposal for a 6.5% wage increase, the SA Municipal Workers’ Union (Samwu) and the Independent Municipal and Allied trade Union (Imatu) have rejected it. The unions have responded by saying they were committed to the negotiations and it was too early to talk about strikes.
