A three-month strike by contract workers at the SA Post Office (Sapo) in Gauteng has left it incapacitated, its outlets piled high with unsent mail and its depots trashed. Mail turnover times are now about two weeks longer than usual. The strikers want permanent employment, with some of them having worked for Sapo for more than a decade without receiving any of the benefits of those in permanent positions.
