Massive vacancies in Eastern Cape health positions

shutterstock_75236719The vacancy rates of critical posts in Eastern Cape state hospitals has almost doubled in the past financial year, leaving the province with a shocking 44% shortage in medical and nursing professionals, the auditor-general has revealed. In comparison, 31% of health posts nationwide are vacant. Yet the department’s administration section is 8% overstaffed.
