The temporary teacher saga in the Eastern Cape drags on with no clarity on when exactly the education department will re-employ all those who were axed. Last week, the department undertook that the teachers would be re-employed by 1 July in terms of an agreement signed with union Sadtu. But a week later, the acting provincial head said there was insufficient money to immediately absorb all 4,000 axed teachers.
