The public service ministry confirmed today that the government had upped its latest salary increase offer for 2012/2013 from 6.5% to 6.7%. The Cosatu-affiliated unions had asked for two weeks to consult and talks were now on hold while they sought a mandate. Chris Kloppers of the non Cosatu-affiliated Independent Labour Caucus (ILC), which lowered its demand from 8% to 7.5%, said there had been "some progress” although it was not satisfactory.
