Assmang Manganese to retrench workers

Manganese producer Assmang Manganese Cato Ridge is set to retrench workers, apparently because of decreasing demand and a drop in prices for manganese. It started the process at the beginning of this month and all departments where there was a duplication of duties will apparently be affected. The company has declined to comment and has referred queries to Patrice Motsepe’s African Rainbow Minerals, which holds a stake in Assmang.
