It was revealed in various reports tabled at the Cosatu KwaZulu-Natal conference which ended in Pietermaritzburg yesterday that economic conditions prevalent since 2008 have had a devastating effect on the membership and revenue of the federation in the province. More than 500,000 jobs have been lost, mainly in the textile industry, which has had a direct impact on union membership and income. Only membership in the public sector has shown signs of growth.
