Outlook grim for education in KZN

There is a dire shortage of teachers in KwaZulu-Natal, with 14,000 of the existing pool being under-qualified or not qualified, education MEC Senzo Mchunu said yesterday. Moreover, at least 4,500 teachers leave the system each year, while only 1,800 join it. He said the province especially needed qualified teachers in rural areas, where people do not want to go.
