Absa puts IT staff on ‘gardening leave’ and lay-offs could follow

Almost 200 Absa IT employees are sitting at home on paid ‘gardening leave’ while awaiting the outcome of a company reassignment process. Notwithstanding official denials, they have been informed through internal communications that they are not guaranteed jobs and they may be out of work if they cannot find alternative positions within the group. Finance union Sasbo has threatened Absa with war if retrenchments take place in the IT unit.
