SABC News reports that a bogus institution operating in the Johannesburg CBD has been exposed for taking money from unsuspecting students and offering worthless qualifications in return.
Belmor College offers students Engineering Studies N1-N6 and Business Studies N4-N6, among other courses. The Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and Quality Assurer Umalusi have confirmed the institution is not registered and accredited. Umalusi CEO, Mafu Rakometsi said the college was operating illegally. Belmor's principal said the institution stopped offering the courses in question in 2013, when its registration lapsed. However, SABC News found a 2015 timetable, showing that classes were being offered for the courses in question. It also found exam questionnaires, carrying the name of the DHET. The public has been urged to go through the DHET’s published list of bogus colleges.
