EWN reports that President Jacob Zuma has announced that on this coming Tuesday, he will officially proclaim Wednesday, 7 May as election day. Zuma has also formally decided that the day will be a public holiday to allow workers the chance to cast their ballots. Provincial premiers are now expected to also proclaim the date of the elections locally. Presidency spokesperson Mac Maharaj confirmed the proclamation date. The proclamation means people wanting to register to vote will not be able to after Tuesday next week.
