CCMA to rule on 29 January in arbitration on Eskom wages hike

eskomshortlogoLondiwe Buthelezi reports that Eskom looks set to put its wage dispute woes behind it, at least for now.  The CCMA is due to rule on wage increases on 29 January.  The National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa), which had opposed the finalisation of the arbitration process, said on Wednesday that it had no choice but to accept the ruling.  Referring to the fact the Eskom workers cannot strike as it is an essential service provider, the union’s national coordinator for the basic metals and energy sector, Stephen Nhlapo, said: “Our view is that for now we will continue but we have to challenge the system… We cannot go to the next negotiations with this system… We will go on unprotected strike if we have to.”
