education thumb100 News24 reports that a Sans Souci Girls' High School teacher was back in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday morning after an assault charge was reinstated against her.

Clarissa Venter was seen in a video, which went viral last year, slapping a pupil who had pushed her.  The charge was withdrawn in August 2019 after her lawyer, William Booth, made submissions to the Wynberg Court chief prosecutor that the case should be withdrawn as the disciplinary hearing against his client had been dealt with and that the pupil had decided to leave Sans Souci.  But, Booth advised that the DPP had since instructed prosecutors to reinstate the charge.  Booth has written to the director of public prosecutions in Cape Town to ask why an assault charge against his client had been reinstated.  The NPA has yet to respond, but has undertaken to do so before Venter's next appearance on 7 April.
