nursing thumb medium90 93SABC News reports that the Democratic Nursing Organisation of SA (Denosa) has partnered with provincial departments of health in six provinces to commemorate International Nurses' Day (IND) on Friday.

The theme for this year’s IND is ‘Nursing: A voice to lead – Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals’.  This calls on all nurses throughout the world to do their bit in every Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), as each is closely linked to health.  President of Denosa commented that in SA nurses were committed to achieving these SDGs.  "For example, many nurses especially in rural facilities, go an extra mile in their work by embarking on nutritious and gardening projects.  Despite progress made, nurses still face major challenges.  In Sub-Saharan Africa, which is burdened by high rate of diseases and illnesses among its people, the shortage of nurses is alarming.”  The Chairperson of Denosa in Mpumalanga, Mzwandile Shongwe, said nurses still faced many other challenges like poor working conditions and violence in the workplace, among others.
