joburgcityBusinessLive reports that the City of Johannesburg is considering dissolving the boards of 12 municipal-owned entities and absorbing them back into the city’s structures.

The issue of the municipal-owned entities, such as Pikitup and Johannesburg Water, was discussed at the City’s four-day mayoral lekgotla last week.  Communications head Tony Taverna-Turisan said re-absorbing the entities would take more than 18 months to achieve, with the ultimate decision to be made via a vote in council.  The SA Municipal Workers’ Union (Samwu), which clashed with the mayor over remarks about privatisation of Pikitup, which the mayor retrected, said it would await the city’s final decision.  Samwu spokesman Papikie Mohale said that they would be watching to see if there was any talk of privatisation, which they opposed.
