satawu thumb medium90 101TimesLive reports that the SA Transport and Allied Workers' Union (Satawu) has added its voice to those condemning the Passenger Rail Agency of SA (Prasa) for its alleged reluctance to improve train safety.

More than 200 passengers were injured and one was killed when two trains collided between Kaalfontein and Tembisa, on the East Rand, on Monday.  The union said it had been trying to secure a meeting with Prasa to discuss railway safety.  Prasa apparently agreed to convene a national health and safety meeting once a quarter and hold monthly meetings at depots, but there hasn't been a meeting this year, the union claimed.  Satawu is now demanding an investigation into the cause of the collision.
