nelsonmandelabayRNews reports that a SA Municipal Workers' Union (Samwu)-led picket laid siege to the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro City Hall on Tuesday as the waste management workers demanded back-pay for overtime and bonuses.

This was less than a month after the administration of new executive mayor Athol Trollip diffused another refuse collectors' strike.  The workers claimed that the monies were owed to them for work done over the past seven years.  “It’s been years since we’ve been waiting for our money all we ever heard is empty promises today we say enough,” said one of the protesters.  The strikers left garbage scattered in front of the building.  This was while Samwu shop stewards were in a meeting with Metro officials to try and resolve the impasse that began on Monday.
