VantageGoldfieldsANA reports that a number of employees at Vantage Goldfields’ Lily Gold Mine in Barberton have taken voluntary severance packages and left the mine, according to the mining company.  Lily Mine director of operations Mike Begg said many others were still there.

The company is still under business rescue administration and the workers have not yet been paid their outstanding salaries for April and May.  Begg also indicated that no efforts were currently being made to retrieve the bodies of three workers who were buried underground when the lamproom container in which they were working was swallowed up in February in a massive shaft collapse.  Cosatu Mpumalanga secretary Vincent Mlambo said on Sunday that Lily Mine had not done enough in its efforts to recover the bodies of the three workers.
