strike thumb medium85 85HeraldLive reported on Friday that specialist manufacturer BASF was seeking a court interdict to stop strike action at its Struandale plant in Port Elizabeth.  This after members of the National Union of Metalworkers of SA (Numsa) downed tools on Wednesday.

The strikers have been picketing and singing songs outside of the company.  The company said on Thursday it regarded the strike at its Mobile Emissions Catalyst Plant in Struanway as illegal, but the union claimed it was protected and legal.  Speaking at the plant on Thursday, Numsa organiser Xolani Ntshibilili said its “peaceful protest action” was directed at compelling the company to pay workers back pay owed following the implementation of a wage increase earlier this year.
