sapsThe Citizen reports that ten police officers appeared at the Bergville and Ladysmith Magistrates’ Court on Thursday on corruption charges and were released on bail of R1,000 each.  The officers’ case was remanded to 15 August.

Their arrests were as a result of a long term multi-disciplinary investigation conducted in the Bergville area to curb the smuggling of dagga.  The officers, aged between 30 and 55, have been served with notices suspending them from the SA Police Service (SAPS).  All 10 of them were stationed at Upper Tugela, Ematsheni and Bergville SAPS.
