sandf thumb medium90 89SABC News that the defence ministry is on a recruitment drive for the SA National Defence Force (SANDF) as the Minister, Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, is worried about the ageing force and declining capability.  

On Wednesday, students at the Walter Sisulu University were encouraged to take up careers in the army.  Officials will target institutions of higher learning, especially those in rural areas to entice students.  Bursaries will be offered to deserving students.  Mapisa-Nqakula commented:  "Our defence review talks to the rejuvenation of the SANDF, [and] arresting the decline of our capabilities.  One of the ways to deal with that is to recruit engineers, and technicians, who can specialise in those areas."
