amcu thumb medium80 81EWN reports that according to the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu), its planned strike at Sibanye Gold commencing on Wednesday will prove that it is the majority union at the gold producer.

On Monday, the union issued the company with a notice of intention to strike.  While a salary agreement was reached between Sibanye and three other unions last year, Amcu claims it is the majority union and shouldn’t have had to accept a decision made by smaller unions.  Amcu spokesperson Manzini Zungu said the strike will prove that the union does represent most workers at Sibanye and went on to comment:  “As a matter of fact, we’re a majority and you’ll see when we down tools.”
